What it does

A focused, local sync process

Synchronization

  • Reads the user's external Sent mailbox through IMAP.
  • Detects newly sent messages and checks for an existing Gmail copy by Message-ID.
  • Uses standard email headers, including In-Reply-To and References, to find a matching Gmail conversation for replies.

Message handling

  • Inserts a copy of the original MIME message into Gmail, preserving its formatting and attachments.
  • Places replies in the matching thread when one can be verified.
  • Lets Gmail create a new conversation for messages that are not replies.

What it does not do

  • It does not send email through Gmail.
  • It does not delete Gmail messages or change messages in the source Sent mailbox.
  • It does not sell user data or share Google user data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • It is not a public email service.

Designed for personal use

  • The application runs as a service on the operator's own Windows computer.
  • Account settings and Google OAuth tokens are kept privately by the operator.
  • Synchronization can be run in a dry-run mode before Gmail insertion is enabled.
Google API access

sent2gmail uses Google OAuth to access the Gmail account authorized by the user.

Gmail access is used only to locate existing messages and conversations, insert copies of externally sent messages, and verify that synchronization completed successfully.
